He criticized the Nehru led first government of independent India for internationalizing the issue by taking it to the UNO and Nehru’s fixation with Sheikh Abdullah ignoring the prevailing popular sentiment. He also mentioned a less known fact where the second RSS Sarsanghchalak Sri Madhav Sadashiv Golwarkar or Guruji, under special request from the then deputy PM Vallavh Bhai Patel went to Srinagar under the disguise of a fakir and met Maharaja Hari Singh and convinced him to sign the accord of accession after much persuasion. Prof. Mitra also criticized today’s mainstream media for highlighting the separatists’ agenda at the cost of nationalistic pro-India majority voice from the valley.

The second speaker of the evening, eminent thinker and BJP leader Prof. Tathagata Roy elaborated upon the foreign policy achievements of the NDA government and drew parallel with the successful policies of other secessionism affected nations namely Russia, Srilanka, Bangladesh, Philippines and China. He demanded the immediate withdrawal of Article 370 and total integration of the state with the rest of India. He pointed out that article 370 has been abused by the elite political class of the state by reaping the fruits of financial autonomy with no accountability by filling in their own coffers depriving the common Kashmiri. He called for effective measures to emotionally integrate the Kashmiri youth with the idea of the Indian nation. He also called upon the government to contain Pakistan as he felt the only stumbling block for a settlement of the issue is the Pakistani state and its army.
